I don’t do resolutions. I never found them to be a reliable way to stick with something. They also seem to be another way for people to try and guilt themselves into doing something they already know they should be doing. Every non-pandemic year sees a huge jump in gym memberships around this time. By March the gyms return to normal and people settle back into their routines from the previous year.
So how do you make a lasting change without all the guilt, frustration, and pain? Written commitments are good, as I’ve already stated. Minimum viable activities are also good. Another of my favorite methods is the Jerry Seinfeld chain method, which you can find details about here. The TLDR is that for every day you do something make a mark on your calendar. Now, don’t let the chain of marks get broken. This is one way how I have mediated for over 300 days in a row and exercised now for over 160 days straight.
Keep things simple this year, we could also use a break from complicated things.
